Mayo Fuster

Mayo Fuster Morell is the Director of the Dimmons research group for commons production and on collaborative economy at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute of the Open University of Catalonia. She is faculty associated at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University and at the Institute of Governance and Public Policies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2010, she concluded her PhD thesis at the European University Institute in Florence on the governance of common-based peer production, a field in which she has published widely. Fuster is responsible for the expert group Barcelona Collaborate (BarCola) that focuses on the collaborative economy and commons production at the Barcelona City Council. The group has advised several  governments on collaborative economy policies. Mayo Fuster is also very active in the commons and cooperatives movement. In 2011, for example, she organized the event “Building Digital Commons” to connect the cooperative tradition with collaborative production.

Platform Cooperativism. Barcelona, a Case Study
Mayo Fuster Morell will provide a brief overview of public policy making approaches to the sharing economy. Using the example of Barcelona, Mayo will focus on what policymakers can do to support the development of platform co-ops. Fuster will present the robust historical roots of this powerful moment of platform cooperativism in Catalonia. Then, she will introduce the Barcelona City Council’s co-creation experience for policy making and the resulting action plan linked specifically to the sharing economy and the development of platform co-ops in the city.
